I found reading Infected to be a nearly painful and yet intriguing experience. This book pumps out the testosterone scenes with loose cannons blasting away page after page. Beyond that, God bless Sigler for his fair and dignified treatment of his characters. Even provided his motivations, you had to hand it to him. On the other hand, Sigler didn't pull any punches when it came time for the good guys to lay some hurt on those who were infected. So what happened to him after THAT. If you have read Infected, then you know that one of the characters conducts some major self-inflicted bodily excavations. I could only put it down to go to the restroom, and even then I was checking myself for triangles.
Enter: Contagious. Wow. Even the minor characters were presented with respect (well, up until the time they succumbed to disgusting spore-induced habits). Read Contagious to find out what happens before the dust settles.
Complete immersion while reading, and like so many other reviews, I devoured the book in less than two days. Also, the fact Mr. Wherever I may have felt "Infected" fell short, "Contagious" definitely picks up the slack. This time around had so many twists and turns I felt dizzy by the end. Sigler has such a robust home page with audio versions, to me says a lot about his urge to write and be read, whether you pay for the privilege or not.Thank you Mr. Sigler for another five-star work.
Also, it's more Sci-fi than anything. Towards the end of the book the action picks up and makes the read a lot more fun. I found that trying to get through the earlier stages of the book, and his first bok were kind of tough, just because it was so slow and kind of boring. I expect some really good plague/zombie, or really anything, but what he came up with, is just kind of weird. And when the things talk to the host, I mean come on man.
I made the mistake of starting this before I knew it was a sequel. I still enjoyed reading it very much. There are lots of crazy scenes that are almost too gross but the story moves really well. I might go back and read the first book sometime.
I won't go into more detail than that, but it really is creepy. So if you are one of those "I don't want to wait" people, then you may want to buy this & then hide it away so you can read both entries in one gulp. The only downfall is that the final book in the trilogy hasn't been released yet & isn't likely to be for another few years. If you like sci-fi, horror or any mix of the two then you HAVE to get this book. He was interesting to read about. This book is a bit longer than the first one, but really & truthfully, you hardly notice how many pages you've read until you look down & realize that you've gone through about 3/4ths of the book already.
Suicidal, Perry keeps himself drunk in order to drown out not only his memories but also the voices of the triangles that are infesting other people out there. Perry has been taken into government custody where he's being watched by Margaret & Dew. Perry's being used to track down the infested, but the triangles are changing their tactics. Now they're infecting the hosts in new ways- ways that can spread very easily.Wow. If you liked the first book, you'll love this one. Despite the fact that Perry's jumped the train to crazy-ville in this book (with those things in him, can you blame him). I couldn't help but sympathize with his character.
Now I do have to both cringe & applaud Sigler's choice of "villain host" in this book. His decision to make (not really a spoiler) Chelsea the baddie made all of her actions that much more frightening, to imagine that someone could turn like that. I had to force myself not to gulp this down all at once because I wanted to savor it since the final book isn't coming out for an indeterminate amount of time. This book picks up almost immediately after the first book. I really can't wait for the next book to come out.
That's all I can say. Aside from Pookie Chang in `Nocturnal', Perry Dawsey has to be my most favorite character Sigler's put out. Seriously, I'm willing to pay hardback price to keep this adrenaline rush going.
